Tourist Attractions at Lambertsbay:

BIRD ISLAND:

The best time to visit the island is early in the morning or at sunset, when all the birds are back on the island. It is nice to watch the bird behaviour when the birds meet again …. The island is home to cormorants, gannets, sea gulls and African Penguins. Penguins are fed at 10h00 and 15h00. Be careful when you walk across the wall to the island when the sea is rough – you can be swept off the wall.

Opposite Isabellas restaurant is a boat service that is available to shuttle visitors to and from the island.

SANDVELD MUSEUM:

Church street – The museum reflects Sandveld living in the late seventeenth century.

HARBOUR ACTIVITIES:

Lobster: The lobster season stretches from November until May/April. Permit holders are allowed to catch their own lobsters with hoop-nets or by diving. Permits can be obtained from the offices of the Dept of Sea Fisheries or the Post Office. Strict rules pertain to the catching of lobsters and visitors are cautioned to observe these rules to avoid costly confrontations with inspectors.

SNOEK JETTY:

Visitors might be lucky to buy a nice fresh snoek at the snoek jetty. It is interesting to watch the fishermen bidding for the highest price and listen to their witty comments!

When they see your car’s registration number, the price normally increases with a few Rand, so be prepared to bargain a little!
